Victor

Dear CAPS,

I adopted a domestic, orange/white short-haired tabby named Victor about a year ago. I was told that he was excessively lovey and had to be an only cat due to his territory issues (however, I think it's just his ego). I was afraid at first that I would have issues with him because I was VERY pregnant, and hoped he would not be jealous of the baby. After my son was born, he seemed to take interest in the baby and would sit with us in the baby's room when I let him in. I was happy to note that he did not 'mark' anywhere in the house. As the baby grew to notice the kitty, Victor would let him pet him, pull on him, and even grab his face until he decided he had enough and would just walk away. A couple of months ago, a Marine that I worked with had to move and couldn't keep his black lab/golden retriever mix. I said I might be able to take her, but we would have to have a 'trial time' to see how Victor would react. Day 1, he marked on the carpet right outside of his litter box. Day 2, same thing. After that, he seemed to realize that he was still number 1 (at least I let him think so) and stopped marking. He even plays with the dog sometimes. It's funny when he gets really hyper and 'poofs' all of his fur. So, I'm happy to report that he actually gets along with other pets, he just needs to be reminded all the time that we love him.
