What to do if you have Lost or Found an animal.

  • Call or go to the animal shelter to see if anyone has reported missing or found animals
  • Make fliers with the animals description and place them at the animal shelter, Walmart, Petsmart, Vet Offices, around the neighborhood, a Fire Station if there is one local, shopping areas, and anywhere else you can - FOR HELP WITH MAKING A FLYER, CLICK HERE
  • Put an ad in the Jacksonville Daily News.  They will post a found ad for 3-4 days for free
  • Call the Vet Offices in the area to see if anyone has reported anything
  • Ask the mail carrier, they deliver to houses everyday and often know which animals belong to which house
  • Call the emergency vet clinic to inform them if you have lost your pet so that if anyone brings that animal in at night they can contact you
  • Talk to kids in the neighborhood, they are outside often and will notice animals
  • If you have lost a cat that is close to a shopping area that has dumpsters, go at night and check because sometimes cats join other strays and can be found at the dumpsters at night looking for food
  • IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO GO TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER EVERY OTHER DAY TO LOOK FOR A LOST ANIMAL.  THE ANIMAL SHELTER IS VERY OVERWHELMED AND IS NOT ALWAYS ABLE TO HELP ON THE TELEPHONE.  THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW FOR SURE THAT YOUR ANIMAL IS NOT THERE IS TO GO THERE IN PERSON AND LOOK

Hugs for Homeless Animals has a Worldwide Lost and Found Pets Program.  It provides a broad reach for the public to get the word out to all of the shelters and rescue organizations in their area about a lost or found animal. Because of our direct contact through our shelter network, this program has returned many animals back to their owners.  Report your Lost or Found pet here.
