C.A.P.S. Foster Families needed for
dogs and cats immediately!!!
URGENT
October 24th 2007
Two 14-16 week old puppies were picked up on Piney Green Road in Jacksonville. The brother and sister are suffering from a very serious case of non-contagious mange and NEED a foster home where they can stay together until their health improves. The pups have been seen by a veterinarian and their serious skin conditions pose NO threat to other animals or humans. CAPS is looking for a foster home where someone can be home with them and is able to give the pups the prescribed meds three times daily. Both pups are extremely friendly, eager to please and seem to be crate trained. They each weigh around 15lbs and will need a home that can also provide them with medicated baths three times weekly. If you can help please read the foster care requirements below and fill out an application.

C.A.P.S. is limited in the number
of animals we can take in due to the lack of foster homes!!!! If we were
able to find more families willing to provide these temporary homes, we could
(and you) could help more animals!!!
Fostering
Policies
The fostering of a Carolina
Animal Protection Society program pet involves three main steps and may take
several days depending on varying circumstances.
C.A.P.S. usually does not have same day fostering, for several reasons,
one of which is to give potential foster families time to discuss and make sure
that they are ready for the commitment of fostering a pet.
Please understand that our organization is based solely on volunteers and
that there are procedures that must be followed with regards to fostering, these
procedures are set in place to ensure that a CAPS fostered pet will be in the
best possible place for him/her while they are with Carolina Animal Protection
Society.
ö
The
first step is the application.
Potential fosterers must complete an application to the best of their
knowledge and submit it to C.A.P.S., the application is then reviewed and
veterinary references (if any) are contacted.
õ
Once
the application has been approved a home visit is scheduled.
Home visits are a required part of the fostering process and will be
performed by two qualified members of C.A.P.S.
Scheduling of home visits may take some time due to schedules of all
persons involved. A
C.A.P.S member will discuss the suitability of a potential foster pet with the
family and try to arrange for them to foster an animal best suited for the
family’s home and lifestyle.
ö
Once both steps one and two are
completed and approved, the foster family will meet a C.A.P.S. member.
The C.A.P.S. member will explain the fostering contract and once the
foster family understands, agrees and signs all of the paperwork they can take
their new foster home.
Fostering
Requirements:
There are several things that
are a requirement to foster a pet through Carolina Animal Protection Society
these requirements are set in place for the benefit of all parties involved.
No exceptions are made with regards to these requirements.
õ
Any
other animals in the potential foster home must: be up to date on all vaccines
and must be spayed or neutered unless otherwise waived by a CAPS program
coordinator.
ö
Applicants that currently have
other pets must have a veterinary reference.
õ
Applicants
must be both willing and able to provide time, patience, food, toys, bedding,
litter, litter boxes and love needed to care for the fostered animal.
(Donated leashes and collars are typically provided by CAPS, but if the
foster wishes to purchase leash and or collar for the fostered pet, they will be
responsible for those costs)
ö
All
members of the prospective foster family must be present or spoken to by a
C.A.P.S. member either at the home visit or sometime before they pick up the
foster.
õ
All
applicants must live in Onslow County or surrounding areas and be willing to
transport the fostered pet to veterinary appointments and adoption days, if
possible. (If
a foster cannot transport an animal C.A.P.S. will try to accommodate and provide
transportation)
ö
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age
and live on their own or have permission/consent/agreement of any other adult
persons they live with (roommate, parent, relative) to foster an animal.
Generally the person who has his/her name on the rental agreement, lease
or property should be the one filling out the application.
If there are other adults living in the home, they will have to be met
and spoken with prior to fostering an animal.
õ
If you rent, you must have written
consent from your landlord and provide a copy of the lease agreement stating
that you are allowed pets. C.A.P. S.
will not allow an animal to be fostered if that person will be or already is
over the number of animals allowed by either military housing or rental
properties.
Reasons to Foster:
- You are helping an animal in need of a loving,
permanent home
- All vaccinations, heartworm preventative, and
spay/neuter are covered by C.A.P.S.
- Food for dogs is provided while we are still
getting the donation from California Natural
- It is not a lifetime commitment; if you are transferred
or move, C.A.P.S. will find another suitable foster home
- You can help more than one animal. There
are always new animals in need of foster homes.
- If the animal does not adapt to your
environment, C.A.P.S will find another suitable foster home
