Adoption Fees

Carolina Animal Protection Society has set adoption fees of $150.00 (as of March 1st 2008) for dogs and $60.00 for cats. These adoption fees are tax deductible and help rescue other future animals in need. The following is an itemized explanation of many of the typical health cost that are included in the adoption fee

Y      Surgical costs for spay/neuter (all animals are spayed and neutered before any adoptions)

Y      Testing for Feline Leukemia, Heartworms and other possibly fatal aliments

Y      De-worming Treatments and Flea Treatments

Y      Grooming,  Dental work, Collar and Leashes for animals while they are in our care

Y      Any needed medically treatments for Mange, Ringworm, Upper Repertory Infections,
Heartworms, Abuse, Neglect or Accident related injuries, or anything else that requires immediate veterinary care

Y    Vaccinations

Y      Physical Examination by a licensed Veterinarian

Typically for a relatively healthy animal the average costs to simply vaccinate, spay/neuter and office visit costs are much higher than our adoption fees. Annual upkeep for an otherwise healthy animal usually runs in the hundreds of dollars.  In most cases adoption fees do not cover all of the necessary treatments for rescued animals. If an applicant for a rescued pet cannot afford or thinks that the adoption fees are too high, it is highly recommended that they re-evaluate whether they are ready for the life-long commitment of having a pet.

Long Distance Adoptions

REGARDING LONG-DISTANCE ADOPTIONS: While we will consider long-distance adoptions, they are complex and time consuming. When adopting long-distance, we must obtain assistance from other animal rescue people in that area to do a home-check for us as part of our adoption screening process. Transportation is the biggest obstacle for us in these cases. We are volunteers with an insurmountable task. Unfortunately we do not have the financial or time resources required to participate in transportation of dogs/cats from our foster homes to their permanent homes. LONG DISTANCE ADOPTERS MUST BE WILLING TO TAKE ON THIS RESPONSIBILITY. WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY OF OUR ANIMALS TO FLY UNACCOMPANIED!!! We hope that interested applicants will be understanding of our limitations and be willing to do their part with respect to transportation.
